They all elevate a simple meal. Customers come to us for staples that feel a bit different to what’s on supermarket shelves –better quality, a bit more interesting, and often with a story behind them. People are more confident with basics now and are looking to upgrade what they already use – whether that’s a nuttier grain, a better-quality lentil, or something new like jollof rice. They want ingredients that taste better, work harder, or tell a more interesting story. We also see more customers asking about sourcing and sustainability – they want to know where their food comes from and how it’s made. We look for transparency, flavour, and proper sourcing. Brands like Zaytoun, Perelló, Bold Bean Co, Brindisa, Nice Rice, and Belazu – all have clear values and consistently brilliant products. They’re not over- processed or over-packaged – just high quality from the start. There’s a growing appetite for unprocessed, ethically sourced alternatives – whether that’s fair trade grains or high-welfare eggs. It’s not just about filling the cupboard anymore – people are more intentional with what they buy and how it fits into their wider food habits.
